Determine Whether You Need a Certified or a Non-certified Building

Whether you need your garage, carport, RV shelter, or commercial steel building from GBUSA to be certified or not will depend on a few different things. The information below describes the differences between a certified and non-certified building. If you have any questions beyond the scope of the information on this page please contact our offices at 1-800-xxx-xxxx and one of our building specialists will help you.

Certified Buildings

Certified buildings are engineered to meet specific snow and/or wind loads. Many areas in the northeast US require that buildings be designed to meet a specific snow loads, and many areas in the south and along the coast require that buildings be designed to meet a specific wind load. If you are building in any of these areas you should check your local building code requirements and purchase a building that meets those specifications.
Reasons for building certification:
Please note that a certified building does cost more than a non-certified building since it requires more structural integrity. This means that there is more structural framework and more steel. This added steel provides an overall safer and stronger building.

Non-Certified Buildings

Non-certified buildings are designed for areas where there is no requirement to meet certain building codes such as heavy snow loads and high, hurricane wind loads.

While we do have most of the information on whether a building needs to be certified or not in any particular area, certification requirements do vary from city to city and county to county, so it’s your responsibility to check with the local building department to ensure that you are familiar with your local requirements and purchase your building accordingly. The building department in your area will have the information you need to determine whether or not you require a certified building.

Purchasing a Certified Building Even If local codes don’t Require It

While you may not require a certified building based on your local building codes, purchasing a certified building over a non-certified building from GBUSA may be a smart investment since it does provide a much stronger building which will provide better protection for your valuables. In this case, the choice is up to you. To get more information about our buildings and to discuss your building needs, please call one of our building specialists at 1-800-xxx-xxxx. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Step Two: Choosing the Roof Style

Determine which roof style you want for your building by choosing one of the three different roof styles we offer that are listed below.

The building in the illustration above is 20’x30’x10’ garage. Detailed dimensions are shown below.

The width of this building is 20’, the height of the walls is 10’ and the ridge, or center height, is 12.5’.

The length of the building is 30’

Step Two: Choosing the Roof Style

Determine which roof style you want for your building by choosing one of the three different roof styles we offer that are listed below.

Standard Roof

Our most economical roof, this roof style is available in our buildings up to 24 feet wide. This model has round or rolled corners/eaves where the roof transitions to the sidewall down the length of the building and features horizontal sheeting.
“A” Frame Roof (Boxed Eave)
Metal Garage Boxed Eave Roof
This is an upgraded roof giving a more traditional look to your building. Like the standard model, this roof features horizontal sheeting. This roof has a 6” overhang and creates a distinct conventional transition from the roof plane to the walls.

Vertical Roof

Metal Garage Vertical Roof
This roof features vertical sheeting, making it stronger, and is the most stylish roof design. This roof type requires the least amount of maintenance and is preferred over the styles of roof. Our vertical roof also includes a ridge cap which helps evenly distribute rain and snow. This design allows water, snow and debris to drain off the eave sides of the building.
